Situation

The useful answer needed another question.

Static surveys ask questions that may not apply and often stop just when an answer becomes interesting. Open-ended responses then need careful reading before they can inform a product or marketing decision.

Challenge

Static surveys missed the follow-up.

Follow-up questions needed to be relevant without leading the respondent. Analysis then had to preserve context and contradictory answers, rather than turning a collection of different experiences into one unsupported conclusion.

What we built

Research that adapts to the answer.

The research agent starts with a defined learning objective and approved question boundaries. It selects a relevant follow-up from the respondent's prior answer, avoids leading language and keeps the session within a reasonable scope.

Analysis groups themes while retaining deidentified excerpts and contradictory answers, so the team can inspect the evidence behind every finding.

  1. Frame the decision

Specify the decision the research needs to inform.

  2. Set the boundaries

Approve topics, consent language and respondent eligibility.

  3. Ask and adapt

The agent picks the most relevant follow-up without leading the respondent.

  4. Preserve the evidence

Keep each response in context and strip unnecessary identifiers.

  5. Synthesize themes

Summarize patterns alongside exceptions and conflicting views.

  6. Connect to decisions

Turn findings into evidence-backed hypotheses for the team.

Evals and guardrails

Evaluate questions. Preserve respondent evidence.

  • Interview evals

Use reviewer-checked conversations to assess useful follow-ups, leading questions and repetition. Test refusals and sensitive disclosures.

  • Summary evals

Check themes against anonymized responses. Test for missing minority views, ignored contradictions and invented quotations.

  • Guardrails

Enforce consent, skip and stop choices. Keep questions within approved topics, remove identifiers and link each theme to its source responses.
